Biking Seattle:
A fun activity in a great location

If you're reading this, you probably already know how much fun cycling is and can be. Well, biking Seattle and the surrounding area can also be a lot of fun.

So if you plan on visiting Seattle, you might not be thinking of taking time out to go biking, but if you plan ahead or plan on being there for more than a couple of weeks, taking some time out to bike can be a great activity to do.

Why bike in the Northwest?
First of all, biking is extremely popular in Seattle. Every time we go, we see numerous cyclists sharing the road.

Why is it such a popular sport? Well, for one, the topography of the area is anything but boring. Seattle is full of hills and valleys and there is plenty of challenging places for riders.

Biking Seattle: The Burke-Gilman Trail

The Burke-Gilman Trail in Fremont is a popular place for cyclists.

Another thing that people love about biking in Seattle is the scenery. There is nothing better than being surrounded by trees and greenery while riding. There are a lot of nice trails in and around the city which makes it that much better.

Problems to watch out for
While biking Seattle and the surrounding areas can be a lot of fun, there are some things to be careful of, especially if it's your first time biking there. For one, because there are a ton of hills, it can be really dangerous . There have been some horrendous accidents involving cyclists racing downhill while a car has unexpectedly pulled out too far and the cyclist had no room to stop or avoid the collision. So... watch out for that.

Another thing you'll want to keep in mind is the weather in Seattle. As you probably already know, while the temperature is fairly mild in the summer, there is always the possibility of rain. The good, thing, though, is that the rain in Seattle isn't like the rain in other parts of the country: it's more of a drizzle. However, rain can cause problems with slick roads and that sometimes doesn't mix too well with biking. If you're intent on riding, though, it shouldn't be enough to deter you. That's part of the fun of biking Seattle!
